Preliminary Roost Assessment (PRA)

Bats are of major ecological importance. All bat species, their breeding sites and resting places are fully protected by law, listed under European Protected Species.

Preliminary Roost Assessments (PRA) are to determine the suitability of a building for roosting bats and can be carried out at any time of year. A PRA is often required for barn conversions to residential use and would recommend if further surveys are deemed necessary to support a planning application.

Some activities that can affect bats include: renovating, converting or demolishing a building. Cutting down or removing branches from a mature tree. Replacing/ repairing a roof. Insulating or converting a loft. And lots more.
