Preliminary Roost Assessment (PRA) Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA)

Where do I get a Bat Survey? Bats are of major ecological importance. All bat species, their breeding sites and resting places are fully protected by law.

Preliminary Roost Assessments (PRA) determine the suitability of your building for roosting bats and can be carried out at any time of year. You’ll often need this for barn conversions to residential use. It recommends if further surveys are deemed necessary to support your planning application.

Activities that can affect bats include:

  • renovating, converting or demolishing a building.
  • Cutting down or removing branches from a mature tree.
  • Replacing/ repairing a roof.
  • Insulating or converting a loft. And lots more.

Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA)

When a development has ‘likely significant effect’ on a Natural Site – then a Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) is probably required. Projects we’ve completed HRA for include road infrastructure schemes and medium/ large scaled housing developments.
