Conquest CS55 Water Extinguisher made by the Pyrene Company Ltd.
Here we have a CS Water Extinguisher, made in accordance with BS 1382, a British standard from 1948 which helps give an indication of the date of this extinguisher which is of riveted body construction. Riveted construction is where pieces of metal are held together by pinching them together with a metal rod which is beaten to have two head (the rounded parts) that push the plates together.
The Pyrene Company Ltd still exists as a corporate entity. The Pyrene Company Ltd was incorporated in 1914 in England, and existed as a separate entity until 1967 when it was brought by Chubb & Sons. The Pyrene brand was used until 1971 when the division in Chubb, which was formed by The Pyrene Company was rebranded as Chubb Fire Security Ltd which is still a common household and business named brand of fire safety and solutions.
