Parker Planning Services are pleased to have gained Planning Permission for a Grade II Listed Building in East Suffolk. The proposal for the construction of 2 ground floor extensions and fire escape to the existing building will provide additional living accommodation for the owners.
Our Advice:
As part of our services, our Land Surveyor undertook a Measured Building Survey of the mill using 3D laser scanning methods. The use of 3D laser scanning methodology allowed PPS to survey, record and draw up floor plans, elevations and sections of the mill and mill house in an efficient and accurate manner which further assisted the architects, Paul Robinson Partnership LLP, in drawing up the architectural plans.
Our planning team provided planning advice and produced the planning statement as well as discussions with the Council. It also confirmed that the property is an iconic Grade II listed Mill and testifies to a long history of a water driven energy, evidently with origins over many centuries.
The owners are currently working on a programme of repairs, redecoration, and maintenance. This would ensure that the building is fit for purpose in the future also. It is acknowledged that any intervention will have an impact, however, to ensure care of custodianship, the property must continue as a viable, functional family home. With this in mind, the extensions have been conceived to minimise impact on the existing fabric and to be subordinate architecturally.
Outcome:
It was agreed that the proposal has minimal effect on the environmental and historical significance of the building and the careful design maintains the authenticity of its setting, cultural value and detail. As a result, Planning Permission for a Grade II Listed Building and Listed Building Consent was obtained for these works to commence.
